Jakarta, May 29, 2026 – The Respiratory Programmatic Implementation and Research Institute (RPRI) took part in the ATS International Conference 2026, held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, United States. At this premier forum, RPRI presented five scientific contributions, reaffirming Indonesia’s capacity to contribute at the highest levels of global respiratory science.

Each year, the ATS International Conference convenes more than 14,000 clinicians, researchers, and academics from over 100 countries. The 2026 edition carried the theme “Come for the science, stay for the magic,” as conveyed by ATS President Raed Dweik, MD, MBA, ATSF, and Conference Committee Chair Jennifer L. Taylor, MD, MSCS, ATSF. Its comprehensive scientific program spanned advances in basic science, the latest clinical trial results, artificial intelligence in medicine, and the intersection of health policy and clinical practice.

RPRI’s participation spanned five sessions — one Networking Super Center Learning Event, two Thematic Poster Sessions, and two Poster Discussion Sessions — all centered on tuberculosis (TB) and pediatric respiratory health.

Networking Super Center Learning Event

In the Networking Super Center Learning Event titled “Counting Down Towards 2030: Heralding Better Prevention and Treatment Strategies for Eliminating Tuberculosis,” Prof. Erlina Burhan, MD, PhD, served as Chair. Eghar Anugrapaksi, MD, delivered a talk titled “When the Vaccine Is Here, What to Do? Seeing Through the Implementation Aspect of Novel TB Vaccination,” examining the programmatic and implementation considerations of introducing new TB vaccines as the global community moves toward the 2030 elimination targets.

Thematic Poster Sessions

In session B69, Mycobacteria Unmasked: How TB and NTM Reshape the Lung and Influence Disease Outcomes, Gina Taqiyya Edwar presented poster #1631, “Procalcitonin Levels as a Prognostic Indicator for Mortality in Hospitalized Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients: A Study From Indonesia’s National Referral Center for Respiratory Diseases.” The study was authored by Gina Taqiyya Edwar, R. M. Kevin Baswara, Amanda Chairunnisa Harahap, Muhammad Prasetio Wardoyo, and Erlina Burhan.

In session A71, Late Breaking Science in Pulmonary Infections and Tuberculosis, RPRI contributed poster #567, “Linezolid-Associated Adverse Events in Bedaquiline- and Pretomanid-Containing Regimens for Rifampicin-Resistant Tuberculosis in Indonesia.” The RPRI-affiliated authors were Assica Permata Amalya Hakiman, M. Prasetio Wardoyo, Ibrahim Nur Insan Putra Dharmawan, and Erlina Burhan, together with co-authors Farinda Amalya Hakiman, MD; Diah Handayani; Faiza Hatim, MD; Galoeh Adyasiwi, MD; and Fathiyah Isbaniah, MD.

Poster Discussion Sessions

In session C106, Fighting the Villains: Artificial Intelligence, Biomarkers, Host Response, and Precision Phenotyping in Tuberculosis and NTM Lung Diseases, poster #709, “Hematological Indices as Inflammatory Markers for Prognosis of Patients Hospitalized With Tuberculosis: A Retrospective Observational Study,” was presented. The study was authored by Muhammad Prasetio Wardoyo, Agung Anugerah, Salsabila Hulwani, Luthfiyah Zanida Putri, Gina Edwar, Nayla Hayyin, Jessica Edelyne, and Erlina Burhan.

In session D26, The Unintended Consequences: Environmental Impacts of Air Pollution, Climate Change, and Modern Lung Disease Treatment, poster #317, “Prenatal Air Pollution Exposure and Risk of Early Childhood Pneumonia in Jakarta, a Developing Country Megacity,” was presented by Fira Alyssa Gabriella Sinuraya, MD, together with Erlina Burhan, MD, PhD.

A Commitment to Global Scientific Contribution

RPRI’s participation in ATS 2026 reflects the foundation’s commitment to elevating Indonesian respiratory research onto the international stage. Spanning TB prognosis, the safety of rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB) regimens, hematological biomarkers, and the impact of prenatal air pollution exposure on children’s respiratory health, the studies presented represent original findings grounded in Indonesian field data. This engagement stands as concrete evidence that Indonesian researchers can compete and contribute in global scientific discourse, while further strengthening RPRI’s international collaborative networks for the years ahead.
