Jakarta, 28 September 2025 — In celebration of World Lung Day, the Respiratory Programmatic Implementation and Research Institute (RPRI) organized “HIGH5 for Healthy Lungs”, a community health campaign that brought together education, free lung screening, and public engagement activities at Tugu Sepeda, Sudirman, Jakarta, during the weekly Car Free Day.

Aligned with the global Healthy Lungs for Life (HLfL) campaign, the event aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of respiratory health through the five key pillars of lung health: clean air, smoking cessation, physical activity, early detection, and health education.

Empowering the Public for Healthier Lungs

Led by Prof. Erlina Burhan, RPRI is a non-profit foundation and research institute dedicated to advancing respiratory health in Indonesia through research, training, and community engagement.

“Awareness of lung health must start with simple steps—breathing clean air, staying active, and quitting smoking,” said Dr. Pandu Satya Wibowo, Chairperson of the event. “Through this program, we wanted to make health education fun, accessible, and impactful for everyone.”

Hundreds Join Free Lung Check-up and Health Workshops

More than 115 participants received free lung screenings, including CO analysis, Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF), and Spirometry tests, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia, Persahabatan Hospital and PT ENDO Indonesia.

The event also featured an Asthma Exercise – “Breathe Better Together”, attended by over 80 participants from local asthma support groups, and a “Stop Smoking” talk show led by Dr. Ibrahim Dharmawan, Sp.P, who shared practical tips for smoking cessation.

In addition, a Lung-Friendly Living Workshop invited participants to decorate pots and plant seeds as a symbolic act for cleaner indoor air and environmental awareness.

Digital Campaign and Volunteer Engagement

Ahead of the event, RPRI launched the Smoke-Free Challenge, a two-week online campaign encouraging the public to stay smoke-free. The campaign, hosted on Instagram (@rpri.id and @tb.tv), reached thousands of users and recorded over 45,000 digital interactions through educational posts and interactive content.

The offline event was supported by 80 volunteers, including medical doctors, content creators, and logistics personnel, ensuring smooth coordination and safety throughout the program.

Community Feedback and Impact

Interviews with 20 randomly selected participants revealed overwhelmingly positive feedback. Attendees described the event as “fun, insightful, and inspiring,” with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to receive free lung screenings—services that are often difficult to access in public spaces.
