Operational Study
Tuberculosis
Background
Tuberculosis (TB) has become a major health issue worldwide, particularly in developing countries, which contribute to 95% of all TB-related deaths. Despite the high mortality rate of TB, a significant proportion of patients remain undiagnosed. This leads to inadequate TB disease management. Early identification of TB infection is crucial for the prevention and management of TB. In this regard, a modified tuberculin skin test (TST) method using specific M. tuberculosis antigens, ESAT-6 and CFP-10, known as C-TST, has been developed. The use of C-TST is associated with higher specificity in areas with a history of mass BCG vaccination. Additionally, C-TST has significantly fewer side effects compared to conventional TST, making it a safe screening method for TB. This operational study aims to determine the effectiveness of C-TST in diagnosing latent TB among close and household contacts in Indonesia. The study is conducted using a cross-sectional design with an exploratory approach.
